Mumbai City entered the City Football Group family in November 2019 as the Group’s eighth member and has since enjoyed great success.

The Islanders, as they are known colloquially, are the first team in ISL history to secure the double of the Indian Super League Winner’s Shield and the ISL Playoffs Trophy in the same season – the 2020/21 season.

As a result of those endeavours, in 2022, the Club played its first game in the AFC Champions League, and in April of the same year, became the first Indian football club to win a match in the competition.

Mumbai City's success on a bigger stage translated to high performance in domestic competitions.

In the 2022/23 season, they became Indian Super League winners for the second time, breaking many ISL records along the way.

Mumbai City clinched the title with two rounds of fixtures still to play. They had the most points, most wins, most goals scored, the biggest-ever goal difference and the longest unbeaten run of games stretching to 18 matches.

After the City Football Group acquisition, Mumbai City changed its colours to sky blue and the Club's crest was re-designed in collaboration with the fans who voted on a new design featuring iconic landmarks of Mumbai: the Bandra Worli Sea Link, the Mumbai train network, the Arabian Sea and two fortresses symbolising the city's resilience.

The Club plays its home games at the 7,000-capacity Mumbai Football Arena, which sits within the Andheri Sports Complex, a multi-purpose sports facility.

Mumbai City was formed in August 2014 at the birth of the ISL, a franchise competition. Mumbai City were one of the eight teams in the inaugural edition of the ISL and featured in the first game of the new competition against the team formerly known as Atletico de Kolkata.

The Indian Super League currently has 13 teams, including the team that tops the table in the second division – the I-League. Since the 2019/20 season, the Asian Football Confederation has recognised the ISL as India's top-tier league. The winners of the ISL league are granted an annual spot in the AFC Champions League 2 and Mumbai City has qualified for two consecutive seasons.
